Fig vs ClearaScan: Comparing Ingredient Checking Apps
Fig and ClearaScan both help people with allergies and dietary needs check products before they buy. Fig checks a product's barcode against your diet. ClearaScan reads the printed label and checks it against each person's own list.

What Fig does well
Fig supports an exceptionally wide range of diets, more than 2,800 dietary restrictions and allergies. It has lists of foods that fit you at grocery stores and restaurants, ingredient ratings and notes from expert dietitians, recipes and shopping lists, and lets you make a profile for everyone you care about.
Where ClearaScan is different
- It reads the ingredient list printed on the product from a photo, so the product doesn't need to be in a database.
- It covers skincare, cosmetics and personal care as well as food.
- Labels in other languages are translated into English and checked.
- If it can't read the whole label, it gives no result and asks for another photo.
- Care Circle lets someone you trust check products against a person's list on their own phone, without being able to change it.

Questions
Is ClearaScan an alternative to Fig?
It depends on what you need. Fig is built around diets, food discovery and restaurants. ClearaScan is built around reading the label in your hand for each person, across food and skincare.
Does ClearaScan support restaurants?
Not as a guide. It checks printed ingredient lists. In a restaurant, the Emergency Allergy Card helps you show staff what someone must avoid.
