Ingredient checker
An ingredient checker that reads the actual label
ClearaScan is an ingredient checker for iPhone. Photograph the ingredient list on food, skincare or cosmetics, and it checks every ingredient against the things you, or the people you look after, need or prefer to avoid.
Try everything free for 7 days, with up to 40 scans. No card needed.

How the ingredient checker works
- Set up an Ingredient Guard for yourself and anyone you shop for: the ingredients each person needs or prefers to avoid.
- Photograph the ingredient list on the product in your hand. A long list or curved bottle? Add another photo and ClearaScan combines them.
- See the result for each person. Matches are highlighted, "may contain" warnings are shown separately, and if the whole label couldn't be read, ClearaScan asks for another photo instead of giving a result.

A label scanner, not a barcode lookup
A barcode lookup tells you what a product database says. ClearaScan reads the ingredients printed on the product you're holding, so it can check products that aren't in any database, and a recipe change shows up on the label in your hand.
That's also why it works on skincare, cosmetics and personal care, not just food: if there's a printed ingredient list, ClearaScan can read it.

One photo, checked for each person
Everyone gets their own Ingredient Guard. Photograph a label once and check it for each person, without taking another photo or using another scan. Ideal when one child is dairy-free and another avoids nuts.

What you can check
- Allergens, including common alternative names for the major allergens
- Conditions such as coeliac disease, IBS and lactose intolerance, with editable starting lists from recognised sources
- Additives and ingredients you prefer to avoid, in food and in skincare
- Labels in other languages, translated into English and checked

Barcode Scanner vs Ingredient Label Scanner: What's the Difference?
A product's ingredients can change, and stored product information may not always reflect the packaging you're holding. Explore how barcode lookups and actual-label scanning differ.
Questions
What is an ingredient checker?
An app that reads a product's ingredient list and tells you whether it contains anything on your list. ClearaScan does this from a photo of the label itself, and checks it against each person's own Ingredient Guard.
Does it work on skincare and cosmetics?
Yes. ClearaScan reads any printed ingredient list, including the long INCI lists on skincare, haircare and cosmetics.
Do I need to scan a barcode?
No. You photograph the ingredient list. That means products don't need to be in a database for ClearaScan to check them.
Is it free?
Try everything free for 7 days, with up to 40 scans. No card needed. ClearaScan Pro is $3.99 or £3.99 a month, or $29 or £29 a year (or the local price your store shows), with 150 scans a month.
Is ClearaScan medical advice?
ClearaScan is a reference tool, not a medical service. It doesn't diagnose or give medical advice, and it can't promise a product is suitable for you. Always check the label yourself.
