Privacy Policy

ClearaScan ("we", "our", "us") is operated by ClearaScan under The Pontaro Company, the intellectual property holder and developer account owner.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect personal data when you use:
This service is intended for global use including the United Kingdom and United States.
ClearaScan counts your own scans and Reaction Journal entries, kept on your account, to show a "How ClearaScan is working for you" indicator and to help surface patterns as it gets to know you, for example reactions that recur with a particular ingredient. It uses only the activity you create in the app, stays tied to your account, and is never shared or used for advertising.
We use data to:

Not intended for children under 13.
Policy may be updated periodically.
You must be 18 or over to create your own ClearaScan account. You confirm you are 18 or over at signup, and we store that confirmation as part of our audit records.
Anyone under 18 must be added as a Care Profile on an adult's account, rather than holding their own account. Allergies are serious and can be life-threatening, and we believe a parent or guardian should stay responsible for managing a child's allergen information until they are 18. Keeping under-18s on an adult's profile means an adult is always accountable for that person's avoid list and safety.
Your allergen list, condition presets, focus lanes, reactions and scan history all constitute special-category health data under UK GDPR. Our lawful basis is your explicit consent (given at signup and reconfirmed each time you add or update a Care Profile). For Care Profiles you set up on behalf of a child or vulnerable adult in your care, our lawful basis is your consent as the account holder, on their behalf, under our legitimate interest in providing the app to you.
Your account can hold multiple Care Profiles, for yourself and for anyone you look after. Each profile has its own allergen list, condition presets, focus lanes and scan history. You are the account holder and data controller for every profile you create.
You can share a Care Profile with another adult who has their own ClearaScan account. They can see the profile, its scans, verdicts and trusted products, and log new reactions. They can never edit the allergen list, condition presets, focus lanes or trusted products, and this rule is enforced at the database level. You can revoke sharing at any time and the recipient loses access immediately. If you delete a profile, all shared users lose access at the same moment.
When you send us a bug report or feature suggestion you can optionally attach the scan you were looking at. If you do, the scan photo, product name and focus context are shared with the ClearaScan team. The name of the person the scan was for is stripped and replaced with an age band plus focus lanes summary before we see it, so we get the debugging context but not the third party's identity. Attached scan data is deleted when the ticket closes or when you delete your account, whichever is first.
Each sub-processor has its own privacy commitments. Where a sub-processor is outside the UK/EEA we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses as adopted for UK data.
The native ClearaScan app uses no third-party trackers and no advertising cookies. Analytics is via Google Analytics 4 on our own property, with no ad personalisation and no cross-app tracking. The marketing site shows an essential-only cookie banner and does not use third-party marketing or advertising trackers.
Subscription payments are processed by Apple or Google via the App Store / Play Store. We never see, store or process your card details. RevenueCat manages our subscription state but only handles the receipt/entitlement signal, not payment card data.
ClearaScan checks packaging against your saved allergen list and any focus lanes you have enabled. It is not medical advice and does not replace consulting a doctor or dietitian. It does not detect cross-contamination or "may contain" trace risks. Always double-check the label yourself, especially for anaphylaxis or severe allergy.
If you think you, or someone in your care, is having an allergic or anaphylactic reaction: do not rely on the app. Use an adrenaline auto-injector (such as an EpiPen) if one is prescribed, and call the emergency services straight away. UK: 999 · USA and Canada: 911 · EU: 112.
